THE SIDELINES : Danny Ferry’s Future Unsettled
Messaggero Roma said today that the future of its young American star, Danny Ferry, is up in the air and that a final decision about an extension of Ferry’s contract will be made at the end of the regular season in May.
Francesco Rita, a spokesman for the Italian basketball club, said Messaggero was unaware of any plan of the former Duke All-American to sign with the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers.
Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy’s largest sports newspaper, reported Sunday that Ferry plans to join his American teammate Brian Shaw in going back to the United States.
“Ferry has not informed the club that he plans to leave Rome,” Rita said. “He has long agreed to decide about a possible extension of his contract at the end of this season.”
