Two small commercial areas of the northeast San Fernando Valley were evacuated briefly Tuesday when hazardous materials leaks were reported, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
A small vat containing trichloroethane overheated and caught fire about 1 p.m. at Anthony Manufacturing in the 12300 block of Montero Avenue in Pacoima, Firefighter Pat Marek said.
Marek said nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution for about an hour.
Earlier in the day, a hazardous-materials team was sent to an out of business metal-plating company in Sun Valley where chemicals were reported to be leaking from a steel drum. Marek said the report came from workers cleaning up All-American Plating, in the 7100 block of Vineland Avenue.
A small area of nearby businesses was evacuated after the leak was reported at 10:35 a.m., but no indication of a leak was found, Marek said.
