LAGUNA BEACH : Lenney and Gentry Running, Clerk Says

Mayor Lida Lenney and Councilman Robert F. Gentry, who hold two of three council seats up for grabs in November, have both decided to run for reelection, a city official said Wednesday.

Although neither has formally announced a decision, Laguna Beach City Clerk Verna L. Rollinger said both council members have advised her of their plans.

Lenney “has decided to run, and Bob has decided to run, and it’s no secret,” Rollinger said.

Lenney and Gentry, both outspoken environmentalists, have represented the city in talks with the Irvine Co. in a bid keep the proposed Laguna Laurel housing development from being built in Laguna Canyon.

Lenney, who was elected in 1986 and is the newest member of the council, founded the Laguna Canyon Conservancy. Gentry has been on the council since 1982 and preceded Lenney as mayor.

Neither Gentry nor Lenney was available for comment.

Other candidates who have announced plans to run for City Council are Planning Commissioner Ann Christoph and environmental activist Beth Leeds.
