High School Fight Ends in Stabbing; 13-Year-Old Held
A 13-year-old boy was in custody Thursday on charges of stabbing an 18-year-old Bolsa Grande High School student in what was believed to be a gang-related attack at the school, police said.
The victim, Salvadore Ceja, was stabbed twice in the back and once in the arm during the confrontation at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, said Garden Grove Police Lt. Ron Weigand. He was airlifted to UCI Medical Center, where he was reported in stable condition.
Weigand said the 13-year-old youth, a Westminster resident who was not identified because of his age, went to the campus after classes, got “involved in a fight” with Ceja, and stabbed him. Weigand said he did not know what caused the dispute.
The boy was tracked to an apartment near the campus and arrested, Weigand said. He was charged with attempted murder. A knife believed used in the attack was recovered.
Dick Hain, president of the Garden Grove Unified School District board, said administrators who went to the scene reported that the incident was “gang-related.” He said he was not told which gangs were involved.
Assistant Supt. Kenneth Calkins, who interviewed witnesses at the scene, and Bolsa Grande Principal George Willson could not be reached for comment.
