A Lancaster man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and manslaughter Sunday after his car slammed into a utility pole, killing his two passengers, authorities said.
Carlos Ybarra, 20, was driving east on Avenue K near Stanridge Avenue in Lancaster around 7:45 p.m. when the car went out of control and swerved off the road, said Deputy Dennis Diederich of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The car flipped over after smashing into the pole.
Diederich said the impact broke off a five-foot section from the pole.
Ybarra’s two passengers died instantly, Diederich said. Their names were not released Sunday pending notification of relatives.
Ybarra was treated for minor injuries at Lancaster Community Hospital before he was jailed at the Antelope Valley sheriff’s station in lieu of $6,000 bail.
