World IN BRIEF : EL SALVADOR : Slain Archbishop Proposed as Saint

The Salvadoran Roman Catholic Church will ask the Vatican to declare the late Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero a saint. Romero was gunned down in 1980 as he conducted a Mass in San Salvador. Auxiliary Archbishop Gregorio Rosa Chavez said the church will begin the process of canonization to mark the 10th anniversary of Romero’s murder on March 24.
