Interim Police Chief Resigns After 4 Months

Share

Kelson McDaniel, who has served as interim police chief in Pomona since Nov. 15, has resigned effective Friday, City Administrator Julio Fuentes announced Tuesday.

Fuentes would not discuss the reasons for the resignation, and McDaniel was unavailable for comment. A former police chief in San Clemente and Los Alamitos, McDaniel had applied for a permanent appointment as Pomona’s chief but was rejected.

Fuentes recommended to the City Council a month ago that the city hire Lloyd Wood, Azusa’s police chief, but Wood withdrew his application on Monday. Wood said that after prolonged negotiations with the Pomona council over an employment agreement, it became clear to him that he could not obtain the council’s full support.

After McDaniel leaves, Capt. Jack Blair will assume temporary command of the Police Department and its 171 sworn officers. The search continues for a permanent chief.
