SIMI VALLEY : Search for Festival Location Narrows

Share

The Simi Valley Days festival committee has narrowed to three locations its search for a future site for the annual event.

Committee member Lloyd Boland said the sites include the Douglas Ranch near the intersection of Cochran Street and the Simi Valley Freeway, Simi Ranch on Tierra Rejada Road and Tierra Rejada Park.

Boland, however, said the seven-member panel is still in the process of gathering information on the availability of the sites as well as acquisition costs.

“We’re still in the preliminary stages,” Boland said, adding that the committee will take up the issue at its next meeting on April 18.

For the past four years, the Simi Valley Days festival has been held on a 70-acre plot at the intersection of Madera Road and Los Angeles Avenue. Boland said the committee began searching in November for an alternative location because the present one is expected to be developed in the near future.

This year’s festival--which will feature a carnival, rodeo and a tractor-trailer pulling contest--among other events, will be held Sept. 15 through Sept. 23. A related golf tournament is scheduled Sept. 28.

The five-year-old festival attracts about 40,000 people annually.
