A Beverly Hills lawyer was indicted Tuesday on charges he lied to a federal grand jury probing alleged insurance fraud by a group of Los Angeles area attorneys whom prosecutors have called the “Alliance.”

Barry J. Krasner, 41, was charged in San Diego with eight counts of perjury for testimony he gave the grand jury in December, 1988. Each count carries a penalty on conviction of up to five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.

Insurance fraud--The Times incorrectly reported Wednesday that seven of the nine persons charged by federal prosecutors in the “Alliance” insurance fraud case are lawyers. In fact, six of the nine are lawyers.

Krasner was expected to surrender Wednesday to postal agents in San Diego. His attorney said he would plead not guilty.

With Krasner’s indictment, seven lawyers and two others have been charged in the Alliance case. Seven of the nine have pleaded guilty to mail fraud, including Krasner’s former law partner, Alan Hersh of Van Nuys, who entered his plea in December.
