Soccer fans enraged by their team’s loss in Jakarta smashed up 35 railway stations across Java, injuring more than 50 people.

Four thousand fans of the Surabaya-based Persebaya team hurled fist-sized stones at people and houses and looted food from station canteens, the Kompas newspaper reported today.

They damaged 18 passenger trains and two cars on their Monday night journey across Java.

The trail of violence began with raging battles in Jakarta’s main stadium Sunday when Surabaya was beaten 2-0 by arch-rival Bandung. More than 100 people were injured. One man died of a heart attack.
