THOUSAND OAKS : Council to Build, Improve Horse Path

Share

The Thousand Oaks City Council voted Tuesday night to build an equestrian trail along the north side of Janss Road between Paige Lane and California 23 and to upgrade an informal trail along the front of the Thousands Oaks Library complex.

The expansion is part of a master plan to connect the trails to the proposed Conejo Creek Park near the library complex.

City staff originally suggested constructing an equestrian trail along only the north side of JanssRoad behind the library because a trail in front of the complex could place riders in danger of being hit by cars.

But horse enthusiasts--who have been riding in front of the library on the makeshift trail--argued that they need easy access to the nearby Waverly Equestrian Area.

To appease both sides, the council voted to upgrade the makeshift trail, making it safe for riders, and to construct the new trail. The trails are expected to be finished later this year.
