Share

The head of the water district that serves Oxnard and Port Hueneme, which has nitrate contamination in two of its 17 wells, said Wednesday that he has asked the Metropolitan Water District to help assure a safe supply to customers in the future.

The official, Fred J. Gientke of the United Water Conservation District, said he expects no shortage of safe water.

The district’s operations superintendent, Bernard McBride, said after a district board meeting Wednesday, “I don’t foresee anything on the horizon that will stop us from delivering the water we are contracted to.”

The concentration of nitrate in the two contaminated wells does not pose a serious health hazard to adults but is harmful to young children.
