“The Meaning of Cinco de Mayo” is the topic of the ninth annual Cinco de Mayo essay contest sponsored by USC’s Office of Civic and Community Relations.
Scholarships of $250, $100 and $50, respectively, will be awarded for first, second and third prizes in each of four categories: seventh- to ninth-grade English, seventh- to ninth-grade Spanish, 10th- to 12th-grade English and 10th- to 12th-grade Spanish.
The contest is open only to seventh- through 12th-graders in Los Angeles County public or private schools. A contestant must submit a 300- to 600-word essay in either English or Spanish. Entries must be postmarked by April 5 and should be addressed to Dr. Samuel Mark, USC, University Park, Los Angeles, CA. 90089-7051.
