Best of Broadcast News: News coverage of the San Francisco earthquake and Hurricane Hugo earned top honors Thursday in the 50th annual Peabody Awards, called the Pulitzer Prize of broadcast journalism. The University of Georgia, which governs the awards, cited KCBS-AM radio and KGO-TV, both in San Francisco, for coverage of the earthquake and WCSC-TV in Charleston, S.C., for reporting on Hurricane Hugo. Other recipients included CBS Radio News in New York and Cable News Network in Atlanta for coverage of last spring’s uprising in China.
