A Ventura man was sentenced to four years and three months in prison Thursday for robbing three Ventura County banks last fall.
Theodore Ellsworth Farrant, 51, also was ordered by U.S. District Judge Laughlin E. Waters to spend three years under supervision after his release, the FBI said.
Ventura police arrested Farrant on Sept. 30, 1989, after he was identified by the public based on information released through the media.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles on eight counts of bank robbery, including seven in Ventura County and one in Los Angeles County.
On Dec. 5, Farrant pleaded guilty to the robberies of Security Pacific National Bank in Oxnard, California Federal Savings in Port Hueneme and Imperial Savings Assn. in Port Hueneme.
Farrant is a former aerospace engineer who turned to bank robbery after he had developed a heroin habit, federal officials said.
