Share

The seventh bank robbery in Ventura County this year, of Independence Bank in Thousand Oaks, was under investigation Friday.

The Sheriff’s Department and the FBI said they believed that the lone male suspect who made away with an undisclosed amount of money at 1:15 p.m. Thursday was not connected with any previous Ventura County robberies.

The suspect entered the bank at 2806 Townsgate Road, showed the teller a note demanding money and said he had a gun, Sheriff’s Lt. Kelli McIlvain said.

After receiving the money, the suspect was seen leaving the bank area in a gold or tan four-door sedan believed to be an early 1980s-model American car.

The suspect is a 40- to 45-year-old male Caucasian. He is 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and an olive complexion, McIlvain said.

At this time last year, 11 bank robberies had been committed in the county, according to FBI statistics.
