Authorities have identified the man who washed ashore in Manhattan Beach Tuesday morning, an apparent drowning victim, as Douglas Brent Young, 41, of Rancho Palos Verdes.
Police said they still do not know how Young, who was fully clothed, got into the ocean six blocks south of the Manhattan Beach Pier.
A jogger discovered the body in the surf at 6:30 a.m. Police said they had found no sign of foul play and that it appeared that Young, an American Airlines pilot, had been dead for several hours. Young carried no identification, but police matched keys found in his pocket to a Ford Thunderbird parked two blocks from the beach, said Manhattan Beach Police Sgt. Jack Zea.
Identification found in the car led authorities to American Airlines. A co-worker identified Young on Wednesday.
