Metallica Wins Three: Heavy Metal group Metallica was the top winner at the 13th Annual Bay Area Music Awards in San Francisco with awards for outstanding group, outstanding bassist (band member Jason Newsted) and outstanding drummer (band member Lars Ulrich). Other winners included Todd Rundgren, who was named outstanding male vocalist and best keyboardist, and Neil Young, who won outstanding album of the year for “Freedom” and was named Bay Area musician of the year. In addition, Linda Ronstadt was named outstanding female vocalist, and the Doobie Brothers won outstanding song for “The Doctor.”
