Oscar Hopefuls Win British Awards: Daniel Day-Lewis was named best actor at the British Academy Awards in London Sunday for his role in the film “My Left Foot,” boosting British hopes for success in the Oscars. Oscar hopefuls also won in several other categories, including Pauline Collins as best actress for her role in “Shirley Valentine,” the American “Dead Poets Society” as best film, Kenneth Branagh as best director for his debut in “Henry V,” and American writer Nora Ephron for best original screenplay for “When Harry Met Sally.”
