San Quentin Death Vigil

Law-and-order proponents will undoubtedly hail the U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the California death penalty as a victory for the forces of right (Part A, March 6). They may be proven to have a point if the crime rate drops because of it. An enforceable death penalty has not reduced crime anywhere else, but maybe California is different.

Apparently some people will never get it through their heads that punishment has never deterred crime.
