Long Beach : College Opens New Library in Converted Gymnasium

Share

Long Beach City College has opened a new library and learning center.

Located on the Pacific Coast Campus, the 21,000-square-foot facility was constructed for $1.2 million in a 56-year-old building once used as a gymnasium and later as a cafeteria.

Designed to complement the existing campus library, the new facility will increase library space by about 50%. Among the programs to be housed in the building are classes in reading, adult education, writing and math skills.

“Students will come to a counter, describe their needs, and be directed to the proper area,” said Paul Waechter, head of the adult basic education department.
