Share

Local theater buffs interested in contemporary drama won’t want to miss the Oxnard College Theatre arts department’s production of “A Raisin in the Sun” this weekend.

Lorraine Hansberry’s play, winner of the New York Critics Circle Award for the 1958-59 season, is considered a classic of American theater. The value systems of the black family, concepts of Afro-American beauty and identity and class and generational conflicts are explored in the play.

According to stage manager Cherlyn Johnson, “A Raisin in the Sun” will be the first black play performed at Oxnard College. If the show is a success, the college will have a black production each year.
