Erasure’s Fans

In response to Chris Willman’s March 13 review of the Erasure concert: He refers to the crowd as “. . . dominated not by trendy West Hollywoodians but by very straight adolescent girls . . .” If by “trendy West Hollywoodians” he means gays, he should say so. Name calling is too easy.

What is he really saying when he writes: “But those gals, they do love Andy. Every mother’s nightmare, every teen-age girl’s dream”? It would seem more likely that every “mother’s nightmare” be one of rape, abduction or teen-age pregnancy. Certainly teen-age girls have nothing to fear from Erasure’s lead singer Andy Bell.

Finally, if experiencing a gay person who is not quiet about his sexuality is “provocative” to Mr. Willman, any “danger factor” he felt was certainly his own. Many people would not care in the least what goes on in another’s bedroom unless the performance being reviewed takes place there.
