Gatherings Can Aid in Research

There are some major events coming up for genealogists, and if you are interested in attending any of them, now is the time to make your travel and vacation plans.

Genealogical conferences provide unmatched opportunities to enhance research skills. At these events you will meet authors, professional and novice genealogists, historians and librarians.

Scheduled events are:

* April 20-21: California Genealogical Society’s Genealogical Fair, St. Mary’s Cathedral Conference Center, San Francisco. This two-day event will showcase products, services and lectures on diverse genealogical research topics. * May 6: Southern California Jamboree, Pasadena Convention Center. An all-day event that attracts thousands of researchers and vendors, and offers exhibits and lectures for beginning to expert genealogists. * June 6-9: National Genealogical Society’s 10th annual conference, Arlington, Va., at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. Lecture subjects will be on resources in the mid-Atlantic states, New York and New England; records of the federal government; methodology; English research, and use of computers for genealogical purposes. * Aug. 15-18: Federation of Genealogical Societies conference, Salt Lake City. FGS will hold a “Windows to the Past” conference, with the Utah Genealogical Assn. acting as local host. The four-day event will offer more than 120 classes, workshops and panel discussions for beginning, intermediate and experienced researchers.
