Machine-Tool Shipments Climb: Shipments of machine tools increased 18.4% in February to $268 million, partly reversing a 40.9% decline in January, the National Machine Tool Builders’ Assn. said in its monthly report. But new machine-tool orders fell in February, slipping 3.4% to $194.55 million from January’s figure. The group’s president, Albert Moore, attributed the decline in orders to a pause in domestic business activity while manufacturers weigh their investment needs for the 1990s.
