LA HABRA : Parking Limits Near High School OKd

Parking restrictions on Highlander Avenue near La Habra High School are being tightened to reduce congestion while school is in session.

Homeowners are pleased with previous efforts by the city to reduce parking problems in front of their homes during the day and have now persuaded the City Council to take additional measures to control parking during night school.

Rob Skinner, a five-year resident on Highlander, explained that most homes have very limited off-street parking. “If you have more than one car, you have no place to park,” he said.

Signs restricting parking to residents between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. were erected this month, and Skinner said the problem has been greatly reduced during the day.

But students and faculty participating in night school continue to compete with residents for street parking, according to Skinner. “When we left home to come here, the cars were lining the street, bumper to bumper,” Skinner told the council at last week’s meeting.

The council voted to revise the restrictions to include 7 to 8 p.m.

Residents have been issued parking permits that exempt their vehicles from the restrictions. Skinner said they have also been given guest permits for visitors.
