The Soviet national hockey team will have to do without two of its longtime stars at the world championship.

Both Igor Larionov and Vladimir Krutov of the Vancouver Canucks have been approached informally.

After the Canucks tied the Winnipeg Jets 3-3 on Sunday night, Larionov said he won’t be playing for his country. He said Sunday was his own personal deadline to be invited.

“As of now I won’t be playing,” Larionov said. “If they ask me tomorrow it will be too late. I have to make my own plans” for the off-season.
