Rather’s Last Stand: You’d better be standing up for this item. Anchor Dan Rather is sitting down again during his “CBS Evening News” broadcasts. He had been standing up to do the show since mid-September. But Monday night, he was firmly anchored back at his desk. When he left his anchor desk last fall, “CBS Evening News” was in first place. But, coincidentally, once Rather stood, the program fell to second. And during the past 10 weeks, it has finished third eight times, far behind “ABC World News Tonight.” Monday night’s changes are designed to “increase the pace” of the broadcast, one network source said.
