Dorothy Johnson of Los Angeles would like to find a jewelry kit with implements for tightening and loosening clip earrings. Don’t dangle any empty promises in front of Johnson, or she’ll wax indignant. Just drum up a source or two and we guarantee that she’ll be all ears.

James Burns of Hawthorne is looking for a spice rack with doors to hang over his stove; it should be at least 3 1/2 inches deep, with height and width about eight to 10 inches. He’d love to be peppered with addresses in due thyme, but whatever sage information he gets he’ll undoubtedly take with a grain of salt.

Lois Leander of Fontana, who needed a Tilley hat for her son who works in the tropics, was not in over her head. A Pasadena reader writes that many marine supply stores carry these hats, because many sailors wear them. But if you want to go directly to the source, Alex Tilley writes that his company’s T3 hat can be obtained for $45 from Tilley Endurables, 3525 Seneca St., West Seneca, N.Y. 14224; the phone number is (800) 338-2797 (they publish a catalogue). Others who told us about Tilley Endurables were Helen C. Childs of Upland, Mickey Loegering of San Diego, a Pacific Palisades reader named Dollase, Sue Brown of Palm Springs, Ann Casserly of San Pedro, B. Jeffrey of Sherman Oaks, David Harlowe of Tarzana, Brentz A. Pearce of Canoga Park, Margaret S. Young of San Luis Obispo and June Pierce of Desert Hot Springs. And Rosie Le Boeuf of Santa Barbara told us of a similar product, a cotton cricket hat ($17.95) featured in the catalogue of the Vermont Country Store, P.O. Box 3000, Manchester Center, Vt. 05255-3000.

Lil Yegliss of Los Angeles, who wanted those plastic shades that people put over their eyes while in the sun, can come out of the shadows. Sally Fynan of Temple City says these shades can be obtained from the A. R. Hinkel Co., Sun Valley, (818) 767-8333. And a reader named Madelon says that Isaak’s Hair Stylists, 823 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, (714) 871-4770, have them for $3.

Lately we’ve had a number of requests for clothing for the handicapped. “Avenues,” a 32-page catalogue published by Everest & Jennings, manufacturers of wheelchairs, might go a long way toward solving such garment problems, especially since all the models are shown in wheelchairs. Write 3233 E. Mission Oaks Blvd., Camarillo, Calif. 93010.
