Norton Rejects BTR Bid: Norton Co. rejected as inadequate a $1.64-billion cash takeover bid by BTR PLC and said it is considering a variety of defensive measures to rebuff the British industrial conglomerate and stay independent. Analysts had expected the Worcester, Mass.-based plastics and ceramics company to fight the $75-a-share-bid.
