A 19-year-old man was struck and killed by a tow truck late Saturday night as he tried to dart across Interstate 5 half a mile south of Dairy Mart Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The man was identified as Ramon Barbosa-Sotelo, residence unknown. He died at UC San Diego Medical Center.
The driver of the vehicle that hit him was not cited.
Pedestrian fatalities on I-5 and Interstate 805 are not uncommon as persons try to run across the freeways after having crossed the U.S.-Mexican border, authorities said.
