William T. Siegle, director of International Business Machines’ 6-month-old advanced semiconductor research center, will join Advanced Micro Devices as vice president-integrated technology and chief scientist on April 23. Siegle will oversee development of new semiconductor manufacturing techniques and technologies considered critical to the next generations of chips. AMD, a Sunnyvale-based semiconductor maker trying to join the top tier of U.S. chip firms, expects to open its new $150-million advanced research center, where Siegle and other engineers will work, later this year in Sunnyvale.
