Bomb Threat Prompts 3-Hour Evacuation

Share

Several buildings were evacuated and a major intersection in Van Nuys was closed for about three hours Tuesday morning after a man called police and said seven nuclear bombs were planted in a car near a church.

The caller said the bombs were in a brown Datsun parked near the Church on the Way in the 14300 block of Sherman Way, police said. Nearby buildings were evacuated about 9 a.m. and three blocks of Sherman Way were closed off between Van Nuys Boulevard and Tyrone Avenue.

Bomb-sniffing dogs were used to approach the car but gave no indication there was an explosive device inside. When the car was finally searched about 11:30 a.m. no explosives were found, Detective Bob Muldrew said.
