HUNTINGTON BEACH : Acid-Spill Cloud Sends 8 to Hospitals
Eight workers dismantling a defunct machine shop were taken to hospitals Wednesday after acid spilled and formed a hazardous vapor cloud, a city Fire Department dispatcher reported.
Candice Oshita said the workers were released after undergoing observation at hospitals in Huntington Beach and Westminster.
The cloud formed when muriatic acid spilled from pipes being torn down and mixed with hydrogen cyanide that was on the cement floor. The cloud formed in the basement of the former Weiser Lock Co. building at 5555 McFadden Ave., Oshita said.
A hazardous materials team from the Fire Department was sent to the scene of the accident.
