Panel OKs Bill on Metro Rail Extension

Share

The Assembly Ways and Means Committee approved a bill Wednesday to require underground construction of an extension of Metro Rail through residential North Hollywood and Van Nuys.

An aide to Sen. Alan Robbins (D-Tarzana), who introduced the measure, said it could be considered by the full Assembly as early as today.

Under Robbins’ proposal, approved 19 to 0 by the committee, 3.6 miles of the Metro Rail extension would be underground along a Southern Pacific railroad right of way, partly following Chandler Boulevard between the Hollywood Freeway and Hazeltine Avenue.

Residents have protested proposals to place the line above ground because they say it would divide neighborhoods and increase noise.
