New Product From Phillips Petroleum: Phillips Petroleum Co. said it would introduce a lower-emissions unleaded gasoline in St. Louis area Phillips 66 stations later this month. With its new 89-octane gasoline, Phillips becomes the latest oil company to market such a fuel at the same time that Congress moves forward with proposed clean-air legislation. Timed to debut on Earth Day, April 22, the new gasoline, called Phillips 66 SuperClean Unleaded Plus, will be available at 125 stations and will replace mid-grade gas. Phillips joins Atlantic Richfield Co. and other oil companies in touting reformulated gasolines as a more practical alternative to methanol or other cleaner-burning fuels.
