What’s Going On in Monterey Park?

Share

I am sure many of you, as I have, often asked yourself the question, “What’s really going on in my community?”

I’ve been living in Monterey Park for better than 18 years and would like to continue doing so. But under a decent administration. Over the last year I have experienced the present one. And many neighbors and I have been living a real nightmare with the City Hall and the City Council.

We have been subjected to what we now call “the bureaucratic railroading machine.” We live adjacent to the Garfield Medical Center owned by the giant National Medical Enterprises, which decided to build a five-story parking structure in a residential area. The city code only permits three stories. Just imagine how this is going to impact the crime rate, to say the least for traffic or any other thing you can imagine.

We have been questioning the legality of this project and others taking place in the city. Yet the council doesn’t listen. I wonder why it is that only the big developers get to do whatever they want?
