Dymally Says He Never Endorsed Councilman

Rep. Mervyn M. Dymally (D-Compton) has not endorsed incumbent Carson Councilman John Anderson in his bid for reelection, a Dymally spokesman said Friday.

Dymally aide Lonnie Sanders said the congressman has endorsed Juanita McDonald and is supporting her campaign with mailings, personnel and campaign assistance. The statement from Dymally’s office came in response to a claim made by Anderson in a story Friday about the Carson election. Anderson had said in an interview Tuesday that he has Dymally’s endorsement.

Anderson responded to Dymally’s statement Friday, saying that he had asked the congressman for his endorsement about a month and half ago and that the congressman had agreed to endorse him and posed for an endorsement picture. Anderson said he had not asked Dymally to sign an endorsement card.

Sanders declined to discuss the photograph but said Dymally had never endorsed Anderson. Dymally has endorsed incumbent Councilwoman Sylvia Muise in the election as well, Sanders said.
