Filing a Success but Forms Still Taxing, IRS Chief Says

DETROIT — Internal Revenue Commissioner Fred Goldberg Jr. said today that this year’s tax filing season has gone extremely well but said the system remains too complicated and admitted that he does not prepare his own returns.
“The law is terribly complicated,” said Goldberg, a Yale-educated attorney. “It is too complicated for the American public. The American public deserves an easier system. I deserve an easier system, too.”
Goldberg, who took up his post last July, said that more taxpayers are filing earlier this year and that processing is faster.
