Three Oxnard men who allegedly shot at an automobile were arrested this week on suspicion of attempted murder.

Epifano Duran Tejada, 23, allegedly trailed a car in Oxnard’s Lemonwood neighborhood because he thought it belonged to a man with whom he had had a previous confrontation, Oxnard Police Detective Billy Tatum said. Accompanying Tejada were Rafael Martin Hernandez, 41, and Esteban M. Perez, 62.

Tejada pulled alongside the car and fired three bullets, police said. The bullets struck the car but no one was injured, said Oxnard Police Lt. Stan Meyers.

The victims, three Oxnard residents, drove away, thinking they had lost the suspects. The victims stopped the car at 6th and Meta streets, where Tejada found them. He got out of his car and threatened to shoot them, Meyers said.

He fired two shots into the tires of the victims’ car and left.

The victims denied taking part in any previous fight with the suspects, Tatum said.
