FILLMORE : 3 Buildings May Get Landmark Status

The Fillmore City Council is scheduled to consider declaring three local buildings Ventura County landmarks at a meeting today.

The owners of all three buildings favor the landmark designation, according to Katherine Garner of the county Cultural Heritage Board.

* The United Mercantile Building, built in 1905, now houses the Family Bargain Center on Central Avenue.

* Farmers and Merchants Bank, which dates from 1914, has been home to both Security Pacific Bank and Giant Truck Stops and also is on Central Avenue.

* The former Fillmore Union Grammar School on Sespe Avenue is now used for offices by the local school district. The building dates from 1922.
