An accused killer who allegedly escaped from the El Cajon jail in February will be tried on escape charges in May, followed by his murder trial in July.

Raymond Stone, 41, of El Cajon pleaded not guilty Monday in Superior Court to a charge that he escaped from the jail Feb. 27.

Stone was found hanging from a rope outside the jail, but the rope broke and he fell, injuring his back.

Superior Court Judge Jesus Rodriguez set May 25 for Stone’s trial on the escape charge.

Stone is also charged with killing Anita Dalfoss, 50, of El Cajon, who was last seen alive March 14, 1989. The murder trial is scheduled for July 26.

Meanwhile, Stone is serving a nine-year prison term imposed in a third case in which he was found guilty of bilking women he met in bars.

The skeletal remains of Dalfoss were found last summer near Lake Henshaw.
