More Singles Bias

Share

Your article “Report Finds Sweeping Bias Against Singles” (March 30) didn’t cover the discrimination practiced by cruise lines in their cabin rates for singles. We seem to be living in a double-occupancy world.

Cruising is a safe and delightful way for singles to see a good part of the world, but the cost is prohibitive, because we seem to be penalized if we don’t care to “share,” and the charge to us can be double.

I was never aware of this through 27 cruises with my husband, but I lost him last year and was shocked into this awareness when I decided to resume cruising alone. It’s unbelievable how many single women cruise. I’m certain the cruise lines would not lose money if they charged a lesser supplement in addition to the per person price per cabin.
