Critics and audiences weren’t wild about “An Innocent Man,” starring Tom Selleck, but it’s doing very well in the rental market. In two weeks it bolted up to No. 5 on the Billboard chart. All those renters who loved Selleck in “Three Men and a Baby” no doubt have been instrumental in its rental success. “Dead Poets Society,” which debuted last week at No. 28, climbed to No. 9 this week on its way to the Top Five. Writer-director Wes Craven’s “Shocker” (No. 16) is the hottest horror movie in the rental market right now. “The Abyss,” the big-budget sci-fi thriller, entered the rental chart at No. 15.

* Director Brian DePalma’s Vietnam drama, “Casualties of War,” starring Michael J.Fox and Sean Penn, is apparently one of those movies that most fans prefer to see at home rather than in theaters. It was an instant rental hit--a lofty No. 6 after just two weeks on the chart.
