SHORT TAKES : Highest French Honor for Wolper

Producer David L. Wolper was given France’s highest civilian commendation for his work on the 100th anniversary celebration of France’s gift to America, the Statue of Liberty.

The Legion of Honor was conferred by French President Francois Mitterand, who was among the guests at the opening ceremonies of Liberty Weekend in 1986, it was announced Wednesday.

Gerard Coste, France’s consul general in Los Angeles, will officially present the honor May 2 as part of a celebration marking Wolper’s 40 years in show business.

Wolper has filmed productions in France, most recently the miniseries “Napoleon and Josephine,” and produced the acclaimed TV series about the adventures of French oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau.
