Sinead O’Connor’s “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got” shot to No. 2 in just three weeks on the Billboard pop album chart--a remarkable achievement for an artist who, before this album, was mostly known to the alternative-music crowd. Her single of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” is the new No. 1 pop single. Depeche Mode’s “ Violator” is another newcomer that’s rocketing up the pop chart, reaching No. 10 in only three weeks. Other fast-rising new albums: Robert Plant’s “Manic Nirvana” (No. 14) and Bell Biv Devoe’s “Poison” (No. 22). Heart’s “Brigade” debuted at a hearty No. 42. M.C. Hammer’s high-flying “Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘em” moved up three rungs to No. 7.

* This Oakland rap group is one of the hottest in the business with its “Sex Packets” album, which debuted at No. 91 last week and jumped to No. 36 this week.
