Councilwoman Accused of Campaign Violation

Share

The Fair Political Practices Commission in Sacramento has filed an accusation against Long Beach City Councilwoman Jan Hall, steming from her unsuccessful 1988 bid to become the city’s mayor.

The accusation says Hall and her campaign committee sent out 130,000 mailers that failed to carry the identification on the envelope that they were paid for by her campaign. Instead, the accusation said, the mailers appeared to be coming from four officials who signed endorsement letters: Gov. George Deukmejian, Rep. Dan Lungren (R-Calif.), who since has left Congress; Long Beach Councilman Tom Clark and Pat Towner, executive director of the California Commission on the Status of Women.

Hall, now a candidate for the Assembly, could face a fine of up to $8,000 if the FPPC sustains the accusation after a hearing before an administrative law judge.
