One of two suspects in a 1989 killing was taken into custody Tuesday when homicide detectives and patrol officers stopped the car he was driving in the 200 block of 32nd Street in Golden Hill, authorities said.

Astoleo Gomez Pantaleon, 29, was booked into County Jail on suspicion of murder. The other suspect, his brother, Domingo Gomez Pantaleon, 20, is still at large, said Bill Robinson, spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.

The Gomezes are wanted in connection with the slaying of Jose Ulloa Hernandez, 27, an undocumented worker from Mexico whose body was found in a vacant lot in the 3300 block of Cedar Street on Jan. 17, 1989, Robinson said. Police believe the killing was drug-related.

Astoleo Gomez was seen by authorities at the Auto Square Shopping Center in the 3500 block of National Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, and, after he drove away, he was quickly apprehended, Robinson said. Police say his brother Domingo, who is wanted in both the United States and Mexico, is considered armed and dangerous.
