DBS Service Bows: A 17-channel DBS service has gone on the air, targeted toward the 3 million U.S. home satellite dish owners. Launched by TVN Entertainment Corp., AT&T; and Uniden Corp., the service offers 10 pay-per-view channels, six “basic” channels and one promotional channel. Satellite dish owners can access any one of the 10 pay-per-view channels, which feature one movie each, by dialing an 800 telephone number. Companies said programming for six basic channels won’t be firmed up until later this year. Service costs $20 per month, plus $4 for each movie requested. Satellite dishes can cost from $1,000 to $3,000.
