P.M. BRIEFING : Income Growth Figures Cited
Regional per capita income growth was below 1989 national average in the Far West, the Southwest and the Plains, the government reported today.
The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis said the regional per capita income growth was below the 1989 national average of 6.5%.
Per capita income increased 5.5% in the Far West (California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington), 6.1% in the Southwest and 5.5% in the Plains.
Per capita income increased more in the East, the Midwest and the Rocky Mountain regions than in the country as a whole during 1989. In the Mid-Atlantic, it grew 7.1%; Great Lakes, 7%; Southeast, 6.7%; Rocky Mountain, 6.7%, and New England, 6.6%.
